Busy Parents

How Busy Parents Can Actually Fit Training Into Their Week (Without Burning Out)

Let’s get one thing straight first.

This isn’t one of those “everyone has the same 24 hours” posts you see from 21 year old PTs who’ve got none of the real life responsibilities.

This is coming from a 31 year old business owner, a parent to a 4 year old boy, a 13 year old step daughter, with a house, a partner, a dog and 15+ years of coaching experience working with thousands of busy mums and dads.

So when I say I get it, I mean it.

Why Most Parents Struggle to Stay Consistent

One of the biggest reasons parents put off going to the gym isn’t laziness, it’s just life.

You’re juggling:

  • School runs

  • After school clubs

  • Work

  • Family time

  • Trying to have some sort of social life

And somewhere in all that, you’re supposed to fit the gym in as well.

It’s no surprise it ends up at the bottom of the list.

A lot of parents feel like there just aren’t enough hours in the day.

But the truth is…

You Don’t Need As Much Time As You Think

You don’t need 5 two hour gym sessions every week to get in shape.

Most busy parents don’t have the time or the energy for that anyway.

What actually works is:

  • 30 to 45 minute sessions

  • 2 to 3 times per week

  • Done consistently

That alone can make a huge difference to your energy, your fitness and how you feel about yourself.

Consistency beats going all in for a few weeks and then burning out.

Make It Part of Your Routine

If you’re waiting to “find time”, it’s probably not going to happen.

You need to build it into your week.

For a lot of parents that might mean:

  • Training before the kids are up

  • Training in the evening once they’re in bed

  • Using your lunch break if you work from home

Is it ideal all the time? No.

But neither is feeling constantly tired, unfit and fed up.

And let’s be honest, training at 5pm after work isn’t always realistic when you’ve got kids.

There’s also that bit of parent guilt when you’re missing some of the only time you get with them before bed.

That’s why your plan has to fit around your life, not the other way round.

Make More Time by Simplifying Things

You don’t necessarily need more time, you just need to make things a bit easier.

A few simple changes can help:

  • Prep your meals ahead of time

  • Set certain days for cleaning and life admin

  • Plan your week properly

The less rushed and reactive your days feel, the easier it is to stay consistent.

Train With a Plan

If you’ve only got 30 to 45 minutes, you don’t want to be wasting it.

No wandering around.
No guessing what to do.
No random sessions.

Go in with a plan, get the work done and get home.

What If You Can’t Get to the Gym?

For some people, getting to the gym just isn’t that simple.

Single parents.
Long working hours.
No one to help with the kids.

So what can you do?

1. Bring the gym to you

You don’t need a full home gym setup.

A few basic bits of equipment and some bodyweight work is more than enough to get started.

If it’s structured properly, you can still get great results.

2. Find a gym that actually works around your life

This is something we really believe in.

At One Fitness, all three owners are parents to young kids, so we know what it’s like trying to fit everything in.

That’s why we’ve created an environment that makes it easier:

  • You can bring your kids with you

  • Plenty of space for them to sit

  • WiFi to keep them entertained

  • We can even get them involved

For a lot of parents, it’s also a great way to show your kids what looking after yourself actually looks like.

Final Thought

You don’t need more time.
You don’t need perfect conditions.

You just need something that fits your life as it is right now.
